Dear Friend of Larry:

This spring Larry DiCara is turning 60 years old! Even now, as the father of eleven-year-old triplets, Larry still seems quite young.

As a City Councilor, lawyer, and community leader, Larry has contributed to an array of good deeds. Yet, his most enduring civic activity stretches back to the time when he was still a teenager, to the summer of 1967. For more than 40 years, Larry has dedicated both his time and talents to ensure the success of Boys State, a civic education program for young men. He has been the driving force behind this program for decades, serving in every conceivable role from participant to director. Each year, Larry pours his heart and soul into this activity to ensure a successful program. Although the program runs for only one week each June, it is a year round commitment for Larry. The Boys State program will forever be indebted to himAs a celebration of Larry’s 60th Birthday, the Massachusetts Boys State Foundation is planning a special event to honor him on the evening of Thursday, May 14, 2009 at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library. Larry has graciously agreed to use this occasion to help support the Boys State program. All contributions to the event will go directly toward sponsoring young women and men in Larry’s name.

Boys State has provided grassroots lessons in democracy to hundreds of high school juniors from across the Commonwealth for nearly three-quarters of a century. During an intensive, weeklong program, participants create and manage their own municipalities and work to understand how our government functions.

Over the years, Larry has proven to many of us to be a most faithful friend, a trusted ally, and a supportive coach. Additionally, since he has not run for public office in more than a quarter of a century, he has saved many of us a significant amount on campaign contributions! Supporting the Boys State & Girls State Foundation is a wonderful way to thank Larry for all that he has done for each of us and the thousands of students whose lives he has changed through the Boys State program.

We hope that you will be able to join us on the evening of May 14, 2009 to celebrate Larry’s birthday and his commitment to the youth of Massachusetts. Please feel free to contact us directly with questions about Larry’s Birthday celebration or the Boys State program.

Sincerely,

The Massachusetts Boys State & Girls State Foundation
